Throughout the last two weeks of June, Durston House hosted their three annual Sports Days.
The Pre-Prep Sports Day went ahead in a similar fashion to previous years. In the morning, pupils took part in an ‘Octathalon’ event, which included Running, Jumping and Throwing activities. Having competed in these Field Events, children then moved onto the track, competing in running races in their Forms. Reception began with their 50m sprint, and then Year 1 and 2 competed in the 75m sprint. After some heated competition, children got into their Houses for their Year Group House Relays.
The following week saw the Junior School Sports Day take place. Similarly to Pre-Prep, Junior School also competed in a carousel of Field Events, including High Jump, Standing and Running Long Jump, Javelin Throw, Cricket Ball Throw and the Agility Race. The track events then followed, allowing pupils to show off their sprinting and long distance running skills. Once again, a House Relay competition finished the afternoon, but not before there was just enough time for a fiercely competitive parents’ race.
The Durston House Sports Days culminated in the Middle and Upper School Sports Day. Pupils in Years 5-8 all arrived at Perivale Athletics Track, for an always highly anticipated day of Track and Field Athletics Events. Pupils were in high spirits from the beginning of the morning. The morning began with the 1500 metre race, involving pupils from Year 7 and Year 8 cheered on by their Houses. Throughout the morning, the heats for the track events were completed, and pupils also completed the Jumping and Throwing events. After a quick lunch, the afternoon session began with the 75 metre Hurdles final, followed by the other finals of the track events. As ever, Sports Day ended with the House Relay Competition and then a Staff vs Parents Relay Race.
All three Sports Days were a huge success this year. The weather was favourable for the majority of the time, and pupils throughout the school competed with great effort, enthusiasm and sportsmanship, which is always pleasing to see.
