School life
Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is available between 7.30 a.m. and 8.10 a.m. Pupils can be dropped off between 7.30 a.m. and 7.45 a.m. There is a charge of £7.00 per day for Breakfast Club. Pupils will be provided with a light breakfast in the dining room and be supervised by Pre-Prep teaching assistants during this time.
Doors open
From 8.10 a.m. the gate on Blakesley Avenue is opened and staff greet the pupils as they enter. Pupils arrive between 8.10 a.m. and 8.25 a.m. and proceed quietly to their classrooms. The gate closes at 8.25 a.m. If a pupil arrives after 8:25 a.m., they must report to the Pre-Prep Office to be registered before going to class.
Lessons
Lessons begin at 8.30 a.m. and finish at 3.15 p.m. for Reception, 3.30 p.m. for Year 1 and 3.45 p.m. for Year 2.
House Events & Utility Sessions (Thursdays)
On Thursday mornings at 8.50 a.m., the school operates a bi-weekly system of either a House Meeting (Whole House Meetings or House Vertical Group Meetings) or a Utility Session. The Utility Session in Pre-Prep allows for other whole school events or Pre-Prep events, or for in class discussion and Form Time.
Games (Thursdays)
Games lessons take place on Thursdays for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Pupils come to school dressed in their PE/Games kit. Lessons take place at Castlebar Playing Fields and pupils are accompanied by Teachers and Teaching Assistants from their Year Group, as well as Games Teachers who teach the lessons.
Break Time & Lunch Time
Break Time – 9:40am/10:15am/12:00pm
Breaktimes occur mid-morning, directly before or after lunch, and sometimes mid-afternoon. These are supervised by the Pre-Prep Teaching Assistants or by the Playground Assistants.
Lunch – 11:25am/12:35pm
Lunch is eaten in Harvington Hall. Lunches are prepared by our catering team, and have a 4 weekly changing menu, which varies by the season. All allergies and dietary needs are catered for. Pupils are supervised while eating by Pre-Prep Teachers and by our Dining Room and Playground Assistants.
Assemblies (Mondays)
Assembly occurs at 1.45 p.m. every Monday. All pupils and staff attend. Classes are escorted to the Hall at Haven Green Baptist Church for Whole School Assemblies, or to the Harvington Hall for Pre-Prep Assemblies. Pupils sit in their Forms, supervised by their Form Teacher and the Teaching Assistants. Assembly finishes at 9.20 a.m.
The End of the Day
At the end of the day pupils collect their belongings from their Form Rooms. Pupils leave school through the Blakesley Avenue gate at the back of Middleton’s, unless they are due to attend After School Care, or an Activity.
Wraparound Care
After School care is available from the end of the school day until 6 p.m. There is a charge of £3.15 per 15 minutes.
Activities
A programme of optional activities for Year 1 and 2 is provided on each day of the week. Some of these are led by external providers and are chargeable, and others are run by teachers. Parents will have the opportunity to sign up for these online before the start of each term. Pupils attending these will be dismissed at 4.45 p.m. from the Blakesley Avenue gate, or from Castlebar Playing fields, unless they are due to attend After School Care.

House Events & Utility Sessions (Thursdays)
On Thursday mornings at 8.30 a.m. (Lesson 1), the school operates a bi-weekly system of either a House Meeting (Whole House Meetings or House Vertical Group Meetings) or a Utility Session. During a Utility Session, the Library is open to pupils who wish to take out books or take an Accelerated Reader Quiz.
Games (Mondays)
All pupils go to Games once a week. Increasingly, through Years 3-4, there are opportunities for pupils to represent the school in matches. All pupils go to Swyncombe Playing Field on Monday mornings unless they are playing in a fixture against another school, which may take place on a Monday morning OR Monday afternoon. All pupils need to come into school in their games kit and stay in it all day. They must bring in their equipment in their Games Bag or Durston drawstring bag, when required. Year 5 & Year 6 enter through the Eaton Rise gate at 8.10 a.m.
Pupils in Year 7 & Year 8 arrive at School between 8.10 a.m. – 8.25 a.m. and enter through the main gate on Castlebar Road.
On arrival, pupils make their way to the cloakrooms, where all bags, coats, lunches and schoolbooks are kept. Having gathered their books, files and stationery for lessons, all pupils make their way to the form rooms, where they meet their Form Teacher for Form Time, and where registration is taken.

Lessons start at 8.45 a.m. and finish at 3.45 p.m. (on non-Games days).
House Events & Utility Sessions (Thursdays)
House Events and Utility Sessions
On Thursday mornings at 8.45 a.m. (Lesson 1), the school operates a bi-weekly system of either a House Meeting (Whole House Assemblies or House Vertical Group Meetings) or a Utility Session, unless a special assembly is planned. The Utility Session allows time for the Music Department to rehearse Choirs and other musical groups, with pupils being removed from their Form Classes. Pupils not involved in any musical group remain with their Form Tutors for a period of sustained silent reading or Form time activities.
Lunch and breaktime
Break Time
Pupils are taken to Castlebar Fields for daily breaks. Pupils in Year 7 go to Castlebar Break with Year 5 and pupils in Year 8 go with Year 6.
Lunchtime
All pupils eat lunch in the Harvington Hall. Years 5-8 are supervised by the Lunchtime Supervisors and duty staff members. They also go to Castlebar Field to play.

Assembly occurs at 1.45 p.m. every Monday. All pupils and staff attend. Form Classes are escorted to Haven Green Baptist Church Hall by the Form teacher, where they sit in their Forms, supervised by him/her. Assembly finishes at 2.20 p.m.
Games and fixtures
Games
Pupils return from Games in time to leave school at 4.30 p.m.
Fixtures
Sometimes pupils play fixtures against other schools and may arrive back to school at later times. These different times are given to the pupils concerned and parents are informed. On return, those having participated in the fixture are then supervised by a member of staff accompanying them.
End of the day
Lessons end at 4.05pm on non-games days and at 4.30 p.m. on Games days. Pupils leave via the front of school and exit through the iron gates in Castlebar Road. Pupils wait at the front of school, under supervision, until they are collected. Those in After-School Care should make their way to Room 12 after collecting their things. Activities and Clubs run until 5.00 p.m.
