As the academic year draws to a close, Durston House School is bustling with excitement and a flurry of activities. The final weeks before the summer holidays are marked by a series of events that celebrate the achievements, growth, and milestones of our pupils. From the highly anticipated Prize Days to the heartfelt Year 6 and Year 8 Leavers Drinks and the memorable Final Assembly, each occasion encapsulates the spirit and values of our school community.
Prize Days: Celebrating Excellence and Achievement
Prize Days at Durston House School are always a highlight of the year. These special ceremonies recognise the hard work, dedication, and accomplishments of our pupils across various disciplines. This year, the events were nothing short of spectacular, with pupils, parents, and staff coming together to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our young learners. A special mention goes to Middle and Upper School Prize Day where Guest Speaker Anna McNuff delivered an outstanding speech.
In the Lower School, Prize Day showcased the remarkable progress of our younger students. Awards were presented for academic excellence, outstanding effort, and contributions to school life. The Middle and Upper Schools continued the tradition, with accolades given for excellence in subjects such as mathematics, science, languages, and the arts. Special awards were also handed out for leadership, sportsmanship, and community service, highlighting the well-rounded education that Durston House School prides itself on.
Year 6 and Year 8 Leavers Drinks: A Toast to New Beginnings
The Year 6 and Year 8 Leavers Drinks are poignant events that mark the transition of our pupils to the next phase of their educational journey. These gatherings offer a moment of reflection and celebration, allowing pupils, parents, and teachers to acknowledge the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
For our Year 6 students, the Leavers Drinks event was filled with mixed emotions. As they prepare to move on to senior school, the evening provided an opportunity to reminisce about their time at Durston House School, celebrate their achievements, and express gratitude to their teachers and peers.
The Year 8 Leavers Drinks was equally emotional. As our eldest pupils prepare to embark on new adventures in their chosen senior school, this event served as a fitting farewell. It was a chance for pupils to celebrate their successes, thank their teachers, and look forward to the exciting opportunities that lie ahead.
Final Assembly: A Heartfelt Farewell
The Final Assembly at Durston House School is a cherished tradition that brings the entire school community together one last time before the summer break. This year’s assembly was a poignant and joyous occasion, filled with performances, speeches, and awards that encapsulated the spirit of the school.
The assembly began with a warm welcome from the Headmaster, who reflected on the past year’s achievements and challenges. Pupils from various year groups performed musical pieces, recited poems, and presented skits that highlighted their talents and creativity.
One of the most anticipated moments of the assembly was the presentation of the final awards. These included recognition for academic achievements, sporting prowess, and contributions to school life. The assembly concluded with a touching farewell to the Year 6 and Year 8 leavers, who were each given a token of appreciation to remember their time at Durston House School. It was great to see so many Old Boys attend our Final Assembly.
Looking Ahead
As we bid farewell to another successful academic year, the final events at Durston House School have left us with lasting memories and a sense of pride. Prize Days, the Leavers Drinks, and the Final Assembly each played a significant role in celebrating the achievements and milestones of our pupils. As the summer holidays approach, we look forward to the new adventures and opportunities that the next academic year will bring. To our pupils, staff, and parents, we wish you a restful and enjoyable summer break.
