On Wednesday 17 May Year 7 and Year 8 first and second Cricket teams, were invited to John Lyon School to play cricket. Spirits were high as the sun was out after a few weeks of dreadful weather. We are a dominant bowling side, so when we won the toss, we decided to bowl to put the other team under some pressure. Durston started off very well as our opening bowlers of Foa and Flynnie took two wickets in their first spells, giving us an early advantage. However, as partnership formed between two batters that we knew we had to break. As a team, we were still positive and kept encouraging our bowlers. This in turn led to our spinners, Ishaan, Nathan and Adi creating a crucial breakthrough that turned the game in our favour completely. After some good fielding displays including a Run Out, and continuous pressure on the batsmen, Durston bowled John Lyon out for 42 runs.
At the break, we were all ecstatic at the bowling and fielding performance, but we were quickly reminded by Mr Glassington that we were only halfway through and that the other team would be as determined as we were. Although our openers, Flynnie and Ashley, had got off to a slow start, it was the right approach, as we were cautious not to lose any wickets. In the end, we won the game comfortably only losing two wickets. It was a great comeback from Durston House after losing to Orley Farm in our first game. We hope that the good performances will continue so that we can add to our winning streak against Merchant Taylors’ next week!
