Welcome from the Head
Mr Giles Entwisle
Welcome to Durston House – a vibrant, stimulating and forward-looking school with a proud history of academic excellence and pastoral care.
At Durston House we are proud of our diverse and inclusive community – one built upon mutual respect, compassion and warmth. We welcome pupils and families from all ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds, and from their earliest years our pupils learn the importance of kindness, fairness, generosity of spirit and respect for others.
As we enter an exciting new chapter through joining the St Paul’s Group of Schools – of which we are a founding member, we look to the future with great confidence, ambition and energy.
This partnership marks a significant moment in the evolution of Durston House. It enables us to build upon our long-established reputation for preparing boys for the country’s leading senior schools, whilst enhancing the educational experience and opportunities available to every pupil. Through our close relationship with St Paul’s, we are developing a preferential pathway for suitable boys to progress to one of the UK’s most prestigious academic schools, alongside continued outstanding preparation for a wide range of exceptional senior destinations at both 11+ and 13+.
From 2029, Durston House will welcome girls from our Pre-School to the end of Year 2, and boys from Pre-School to Year 8. Our co-educational Pre-Prep will continue to provide a nurturing and dynamic environment in which young children learn and grow together, benefitting from a rich and balanced educational experience during these formative early years. As boys progress through the Prep School, we will continue to focus on our distinctive heritage and expertise in boys’ education, combining academic rigour with outstanding pastoral care and exceptional preparation for the next stage of their education.
“This has been an exciting opportunity to develop a premier, academically rigorous co-educational Pre-Prep in Ealing, where pupils will be offered every opportunity to thrive in a caring, enriching and aspirational setting – regardless of their ethnicity, gender or faith.”
Pupils at Durston House are recognised and valued as individuals. We believe wholeheartedly in a holistic education in which character and personal development are every bit as important as academic achievement. Our pupils shape the community around them and are supported by teachers who genuinely know and care for each child. The excellent pastoral care at Durston House allows the school to flourish as the happy, confident and purposeful environment that it is.
An education at Durston House is founded upon academic rigour through excellent teaching. We encourage our pupils to explore, question, take intellectual risks and develop their creativity, communication and teamwork – all essential qualities for successful lifelong learning. Our pupils expect to be challenged and inspired by their teachers, whilst equally understanding the importance of striving to become the very best version of themselves. All of this is achieved through a spirit of humility, resilience and quiet determination.
We are immensely proud not only of our pupils’ academic achievements, but also of all they contribute and who they are beyond the classroom. The visual and performing arts, music and sport remain fundamental to a Durston House education. Every pupil’s journey is shaped through the development of their moral and intellectual character, – the cornerstones of success at Durston House and beyond.
This is an exciting time for Durston House. Our partnership with St Paul’s allows us to honour and strengthen our unique heritage whilst embracing new opportunities for future generations of pupils. I am immensely proud of all that a Durston education has to offer and warmly invite you to explore our school further. I look forward to welcoming you to Durston House and getting to know you and your family in person.
