Who would want to miss the opportunity to journey back in time to the turbulent streets of Paris?! It was a privilege for Middle School Children at Durston House to enjoy a workshop run by the Freshwater Theatre Company presenting the swash-buckling adventure Three Musketeers in French. The objective was to boost our confidence and comfort speaking French, whilst also performing in front of our peers.
The workshop took us back to the 17th century, D’Artagnan, a young Frenchman from the countryside dreams of being a great Musketeer and joining soldiers who heroically defend the King. D’Artagnan comes to Paris to seek his fortune and there, he forms an alliance with Three Musketeers; Athos, Porthos and Aramis. Together, the fabulous four unite to fight the Cardinal’s guards, exemplifying bravery and courage in magnificent form! And so, ‘Les Quatre Mousquetaires’ was born!
Exhilarating! Engaging! Entertaining! The show had all of us captivated; gripped by the story, eager to participate and find out what happened next. Some children joined in with the acting and delivery of lines, others perfected their dance steps to French music and a lucky few relished making accompanying sounds with spoons!
Overall, it was an incredibly uplifting experience and everyone thoroughly enjoyed its interactive nature and the chance to improve our French language skills along the way.
